Boot-Scootin’ Boogie.
I’ve never seen so many travel sized shampoo, conditioners and body wash in my life.
Wednesday morning began another morning at the Nashville Rescue Mission. We were in another section of the warehouse and our task was to organize all the hygiene products stored in aimless boxes on aimless shelves in aimless places. Everything from travel shampoo to general bar soap to lip-line remover for women. — (which is embarrassing that that product even exists because it proves the vanity in women…)
Either way, I didn’t think organizing would be such fun. All of us jumped right to work and organized the chaos. Boxes upon boxes upon boxes of regular-sized hygiene products and an absolutely unbelievable amount of travel-sized products. Some of us were frustrated, but nonetheless, we all loved it. We kept trucking through without complaint. I actually enjoyed it as well because for once, I got to do an activity that was a little mindless. “Shampoo. Conditioner. Body Wash…” Those were just a few of the categories, and it was nice to just help out and not have to think about all the homework I had to do or projects, or….you get the picture.
It was a little redundant, and boxes continuously appeared out of the blue filled with more travel-sized products….but we all worked together and we all loved it! I wish you could see the organization after we left that day. We had fun and we didn’t complain because we had the opportunity to do God’s work. Maybe it wasn’t direct ministry or conversation, but it helped the Mission in ways we could and couldn’t see. Now things are organized and it takes a load off of the staff there. What would have taken them days, only took us half a day because we did it joyously. It was so awesome to see the products of our labor and to be able to complete another project.

Instead of packing in the vans and going directly back to the Church, Jeff initiated a prayer walk back to the church since it was really only a couple of blocks…and what an amazing idea and opportunity it was.
We all began walking back in mini groups and God stepped right in immediately. As we walked by the mission building, a guy stopped us to ask us if we were Christians. We joyously applied in agreement and he began to talk to us; his name was John.
John told us he had just become a Christian that day. He was visibly broken and he asked us to pray for him. We listened to his story and we laid our hands on him in prayer for a new life in Christ for John before we continued on the prayer walk. The walk was so peaceful and so relaxing. I, and all the others in the group, had the time to just talk and listen to God as we walked through the city. It was a time of surrounding city noise in the midst of silence and hearing from God…a time to truly ask the Lord what He wanted from us this week…a time for individual peace in Him…just what I needed.

After showers…we had a free night in Nashville. The boys had already, but we met up with them at Rippy’s Barbecue for dinner. The girls arrived first, and then the guys all strolled in in their brand new matching cowboy boots— the beginning of a tradition for back home: “Boot-Scootin’ Tuesday.” After some Nashville country barbecue..it was time for another taste of Nashville: line dancing.
It was amazing! All 19 of us took our places on the dance floor at the Wild Horse Saloon and learned how to heel and tap. Phil and Emily led the group with their expertise in each move while I poked my head out to constantly watch our instructor because I have no grace nor rhythm; no matter how hard I try…I just never was a great one for choreography. Joe and Jeremy did the “chest-booty” dance and we all just goofed around on the floor. When in Rome, I suppose!
We finished the night at Mike’s Ice Cream and headed back to catch some zzz’s that were far past needed. So…be sure to check out the photos from the night of boot-scootin!
